Howdy, I'm Devan.

I'm a hobbyist photographer from the DMV area with a deep passion for film photography.

Growing up in an unremarkable town in Tennessee, I felt that there was more in the world than what I was being offered. Joining the Navy in 2012 was a pivotal moment which confirmed that small town life was too small a life for me. I became a linguist, and with a decade of service to my country, I learned valuable lessons about other cultures, and in turn, learned about my place in the world. As an instructor of mine said, "A new language is a new life."

Photography isn't something that I stumbled into, however. All throughout my childhood, disposable cameras and family functions went hand-in-hand. My parents still keep albums so stuffed with pictures that the shelves sag under the weight of the memories. My photos are a window into where I lived, who I was, and what was important to me.

So what's devanopolis? It's the name my parents called me as a child. I've heard it cheered almost my entire life and it's a source of pride that I'll carry with me until I die. I am thankful for what my parents have given me, and the sacrifices of my parents and grandparents which have allowed me to become who I am today.
